Dear Respected Members and the American-Pakistan community at large,
Assalam o Alaykum
We hope and pray that you are navigating well in these times of continued anxiety. We have spent the last two years (almost) craving for the small joys, the ones we took for granted before the global pandemic turned our lives upside down, and inside out. Hugging our loved ones, friends and neighbors and seeing their unmasked faces. chatting with co-workers and classmates, for those going to school. In-person meetings, when they take place, are still few and rare. Our gratitude for all these little pleasures, albeit in uncertain conditions, cannot be overstated.
Any semblance of normalcy has been hard-won. Our conversations have mainly concentrated on COVID-19 mitigation efforts, getting vaccinations and widespread testing efforts have kept us on our toes. However, whatever little normalcy we have recently experienced, is also abnormal. In New England, we have been fortunate to have relatively lower positivity rates compared to many other States. The pandemic clearly is by no means over and there are many places where the pandemic (specially Delta and Omicron) remains widespread, with hospitals finding themselves overwhelmed with the new surge.
As we look back at the year gone past, it is also worth reflecting on the long journey we took to get here. Navigating through uncertainty and anxiety was very stressful, and yet I cannot thank God enough to be in a position to even write this message and for you to be in a position to read it. So many of our loved ones are not among us. That being said, I also believe in the power of celebration, reflection and optimism. Hope is always in season.
Let us be grateful to the Almighty and look ahead and pray that the next year turns out to be better than the past two years.
On behalf of the Board, I wish you all the very best of 2022 and beyond.
Siraj Khan
President, PAGB

Dear Members, Friends and the Pakistani-American community anywhere.

Given below is an update on the Quetta/Harnai earthquake.

Here is the latest update from the earthquake affected area back home.

The CDRS team continues to be on ground in Baluchistan, where a magnitude 5.9 earthquake occurred early morning on Thursday, October 7th, 2021, at 3:01 am local time. 25 villages are most affected. 2,500 homes are damaged or destroyed to the point of being unsafe for habitation.

The rescue operation is over and everyone has been identified. No missing persons. However, as it always happens in disasters, some of the injured have died. Relief is in full swing and rehabilitation arrangements are in high gear.

Getting tents, food packs, blankets and clothes to the affected people is the top priority.

CDRS is currently servicing 251 families.

Estimated local cost of needed items for these families:

1.  Tents for 190 families = Rs 3,800,000      (Rs 20,000 each)
2. Food pack for 251 families =Rs 1,255,000 (Rs. 5,000 each)
3. Blankets for 251 families  = Rs 502,000    (Rs 2,000 each)
     Total requirement: Rs. 5,557,000 = ($33,678)

Out of this, until yesterday we had collected only $1, 500 from the Boston area, which will not take us very far.  We are strained for resources and are looking for your help in this disaster. No amount is too small and very $ counts.
As advised earlier, here is how you can make a financial contribution:

CDRS is a tax-exempt non-profit 501(c)3 U.S based organization registered with
the IRS for humanitarian relief, development and social welfare (Federal EIN 47-3837240),
with operations in Pakistan. Donations are tax-deductible for US taxpayers.

The quickest and most effective way to join in to help the affected families would be:

Dear Respected Members and the American-Pakistan community at large,

Good Afternoon

Due to the growing public health concerns, safety and well-being of everyone navigating around the Delta variants,
the PAGB Board in an extraordinary general meeting, has decided to cancel our outdoor event planned at Castle Island, when our event preparations were in high gear.

Needless to say, this was more out of compulsion than choice, but the safety of all attending with our families including elders and children, even in an outdoor  and scenic setting, was too much of a risk exposure to disregard.

I am sure that you too will appreciate and understand the reality at hand.

That being said, we are still very much in the spirit of celebrating Pakistan's 75th Independence Day on the Zoom platform, as we did last year. We will be working intensely in the next few days for a very loaded program to unfold featuring live music from Naila Khalid from CT and Tahir Iftekhar from RI, together with regional dances, quiz, dress contest, talent show and presence of special guests. Stay tuned for details.

Stay healthy and happy.

On behalf of the Board,

Siraj Khan
President

THIS EVENT IS NOW ON ZOOM - LINK TO BE SENT SHORTLY

Dear Students,

The Pakistan Association of Greater Boston (PAGB) is a voluntary non-profit organization whose primary aim is to promote and spread cultural awareness and enhance intra-communal harmony with other organizations pursuing similar objectives. The PAGB aims to organize social events for the American Pakistani community in the Greater Boston area. Boston is considered by many as the cultural heart of the nation and we are proud to say that our community too has always done its bit to make a contribution to the overall cultural landscape. In addition to Boston, the PAGB’s geographical jurisdiction spans the rest of Massachusetts, along with Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont.
As Nelson Mandela famously said, “The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow.” PAGB recognizes the importance of involving Pakistani and other South Asian youth in order to preserve our culture and increase its presence in the New England area. To that end, we would like to assist you in your endeavors as you continue to promote cultural awareness. We are encouraging students of Pakistani origin studying in the Greater Boston area to get involved with PAGB. An example of the services we can offer is to advertise your events on our website and publicize them on our other platforms. For a discount, you may also attend PAGB-related programs and events.
To view an example of the work we do, we cordially invite you to our Pakistani Independence Day Event on August 14th from 12-6 p.m. To celebrate this significant day in Pakistan’s history, we have planned an array of activities, from face painting and games to singing and talents of all sorts.  Dear Respected Members and the American-Pakistan community at large,

The PAGB Board is pleased to announce and welcomes the new Director of Membership, Saba Janjuawith effect from June 14th, 2021.

The community in NH will be specially pleased to hear this news, as Saba is a resident of Manchester.

Saba has a diverse professional background. She is a HR / Recruiting specialist, who has worked at the Australian High Commission Islamabad, for many years before moving to the US. More recently, she has been involved in COVID-19 vaccine distribution. We believe we would be able to use her recruiting and talent acquisition skills to put our membership renewals and new memberships in high gear, which have fallen behind due to pandemic times.

Saba is eager to serve the Pakistani community and is looking forward to help promote and celebrate our culture and heritage in New England, during the remaining period of the Board's term, until March 2022. You will meet her and other Board members in person at the Yaum-e-Azadi event in August.

Please join me in welcoming her to the Board.

On behalf of the PAGB Board,

Siraj Khan
President
